Strong Performance on State Report Card

Mobile County Public Schools gained two points on the State Report Card, rising to a grade of 83 and outperforming other large urban districts and the state's charter schools. “This accomplishment could not have been achieved without every student, teacher, administrator and school and district support staff member doing their part to the very best of their ability,” said MCPSS Superintendent Chresal D. Threadgill. Fifty-nine MCPSS schools improved their individual Report Card scores by at least one point. Eighteen schools earned A’s, and MCPSS had the region’s only three schools to score a perfect 100 – Barton Academy for Advanced World Studies, Council Traditional School, and Eichold-Mertz School of Math, Science and Technology. Dauphin Island Elementary and Old Shell Road School of Creative and Performing Arts both scored a 99. Phillips Preparatory scored a 97, and Clark-Shaw School of Math, Science and Technology and Denton Magnet School of Technology both scored a 96. Read more about the State Report Card here.

A record number of scholarships: 618 million

Through a new statewide initiative called Alabama Possible, the Mobile County Public Schools Class of 2026 has now received more than 20,000 college acceptance letters and a record $618 million in scholarships. Students were invited to apply to multiple colleges through the program, and were “matched” with 12,000 admissions offers and $250 million in scholarships from Alabama colleges and universities earlier this month. After offers from out-of-state colleges and universities came in at all 12 MCPSS high schools, the total increased to $618 million. MCPSS leads Alabama in scholarship offers through this program.

Veterans Day activities

MCPSS students honored those who served by participating in Veterans Day events throughout Mobile County. Students from all 12 JROTC high school programs and LOTC students from 13 middle schools marched in the Citronelle and Mobile parades. The Citronelle High JROTC also visited veterans at Crowne Nursing Home. Bands from Davidson, Theodore, Vigor and Williamson performed in the Mobile parade, and the MGM band performed at the Parade of Flags Concert at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park.
Savannah Andry (right), a fourth-grader at Eichold-Mertz Magnet, won first place in the Mobile Bay Area Veterans Commission's Veterans Day Essay Contest, and Patricia Cushman, a fourth-grader at Council Traditional, placed second. Council Traditional fourth-graders led the Parade of Flags at the USS Alabama.
Members of the INTERACT club at Barton Academy for Advanced World Studies assembled the school's field of flags after raising nearly $1,000 toward Disabled American Veterans field of flags project. Barton students also recently raised a new American flag donated by the Tristan de Luna Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution.
