Class of 2026: $1.1 Billion in Scholarships

The MCPSS Class of 2026 earned $1.1 billion worth of college scholarship offers, nearly eight times as much as last year. That’s due to a partnership that counselors in the district’s 12 high schools formed with a new statewide initiative called Alabama Possible and its Alabama Direct Admission program.
MCPSS students earned the highest amount of college scholarships in Alabama through this program. Students were invited to apply to multiple in-state and out-of-state colleges and were matched with admissions offers and scholarships. This streamlining of the application process made postsecondary education a more easily accessible and less daunting goal.

Threadgill is Alabama PTA Outstanding Superintendent of the Year

Congratulations to Chresal D. Threadgill, who has been selected as the 2026 Alabama PTA Outstanding Superintendent of the Year. This prestigious award is a recognition of Mr. Threadgill's leadership at MCPSS, which has resulted in an all-time high State Report Card grade of 83/B and a dramatic increase in scholarship awards to our students. In addition, his sound fiscal management has allowed the district to build a signficant reserve fund and to increase the amount of professional development opportunities for our employees.
The honor, which was announced at the Alabama PTA's annual awards ceremony in Montgomery, is the latest in a long list of accolades that Mr. Threadgill has earned since taking the reins at #TeamMCPSS in 2018, including his selection as Alabama's Superintendent of the Year in 2021 and District 1 Superintendent of the Year in 2024.
